Hello, everyone. This is Master Roger Howe of the Whitewright Martial Arts Center teaching Korean TaeKwonDo and Chinese Qi Gong style Tai Chi. I have been a bit lax in adding blogs weekly and will try to do better in the future. What news to report for the month of December: We had four students participate in the Whitewright Christmas Parade on December 2 and did a great job. Unfortunately, I had a prior commitment that I had made many months earlier and the tickets were non-refundable, so I had to miss the parade. We did have a promotion test on December 16 and had five people test for their next rank and all did a great job showing advancement in their TaeKwonDo skills. Those people testing were Bo Laroe, Shannon Long, Draevyn Bohanan, Derrick Bohanan and Robert Mills. I will announce when the next promotion test will be and everyone is invited to come and see these students in action. They must demonstrate improvement in their basic techniques as well as perform the required TaeKwonDo forms. For the second test on up, they must participate in fighting and board breaking. Two students, namely Derrick and Robert, were taking their first test, so they were exempt from these last two items. We have a Grand Master who joined us named Richard Ross joining our family for training purposes. He is an eighth degree grand master and studied for years under Grand Master Kim of Dallas. A little over three years ago he moved to Amarillo where he opened his own school but after three years he decided that he wanted to be closer to his daughter, who lives in Sherman, her husband and children, so he packed up and moved here to Whitewright. We have been going together to Vasquez TaeKwonDo Academy in McKinney twice a week to train and I am glad to welcome him into our Whitewright Martial Arts Center family. And in the same vein, we have a new Tai Chi student. Her name is Marnie Fetters and is a friend of a current student, Debbi Littrell. We are glad to have her as part of our martial arts family as well. We go into 2024 with the same determination as we had at the start of 2023 and that is to become better in what we do, to continue to learn and develop our skills. We here at The Whitewright Martial Arts Center hope everyone had a great 2023 and look forward to 2024.
